Congratulations to Laura Bennett

It looked like the heat and that big hill on the bike course took it's toll on the women's triathlon field today/tonight. The sun was out and the swim looked beautiful. Laura Bennett was out of the water first and then the bike scramble began. Julie Swail-Ertel clawed her way into the lead pack to join Bennett and Haskins. The lead pack of 19 eventually put close to a 2K lead on the chase pack. Each time the lead pack went around the course Ertel dropped off the back and struggled to get back. Haskins and Bennett worked in the back to get Julie back in the mix several times. Coming out of T2, Emma Snowsil took off with Fernandez from Portugal, Laura Bennett, and others in chase. There was a big crash in the chase pack as they were coming back into the dam area and leading up to T2. There was even a scramble for footing for a few in the Lead Pack as they entered T2. Emma Snowsil steadily pulled away from the group and had a huge lead the entire run. Laura Bennett at one point was in second place, but was passed up by Emma Moffatt from Austrailia at the start of the third loop and even Juri Ide from Japan towards the end of the third loop. In the end Laura got a second wind and powered back to finish 4th. Sarah Haskins finished 11th and Julie Ertel finished 19th. Check out the pictures.

Congratulations to Laura, Sarah, and Julie for representing the USA with pride!

The Men's race is tomorrow!

Later Gators,

Liz

My DVR cut out on it. I wonder if I just have to watch it online, ugh!

Viv,

I watched the live stream feed from on-line. It never made it on NBC even though Dominique Sachese said it would be on at 9 pm. They ran track and field from the night before.

Men's race is tonight at 9 pm and watch it online.

I watched both women's and men's tri's online... was wishing we all could have had a tri watching party even though it was late and done a link up from computer to someone's plasma screen... very cool to watch, however...
